The Challenge
Entrepreneurism has long been a driving passion of Calgary-based business icon W. Brett Wilson. Originally our client through FirstEnergy Capital Corp., a company he co-founded, Brett has continued to work with us on many personal and business-related projects, including his own website.
The first site we developed for Brett launched in 2009 as he made his initial appearance on CBC’s hit show, The Dragons’ Den. Canadian’s were looking for further information on Brett and the deals he was involved with. Over three seasons on the show, Brett did over 60 deals, investing in 30 of those, and interest in Brett and his other initiatives grew exponentially. With the launch of his new show, Risky Business, there is more interest in ever in what’s happening in Brett’s world.
So it was time to develop a more robust site that could easily be updated with new deals, updates on investments, information about Brett including media clips and articles. But it also needed to be a reflection of Brett’s personality – fun, adventurous and perhaps a little self-deprecating.
The Solution
As this is a personal site, it really is a collection of all the things that are going on inside Brett’s head. So in a solution that falls somewhere between Monty Python and Where’s Waldo, we created a look inside Brett’s head, literally.
The exploratory nature of the navigation is exactly what it needs to be – fun and entertaining. But the real magic of this solution lies in the unique application of Flash – using techniques that have allowed Google analytics for the entire site, full-function browser navigation (not typical with Flash) and our own Content Management System that allows Brett’s team to update whatever they want, whenever they want.
We’re launching with the Flash version, but are working on launching the mobile and HTML versions of the site to deliver this unique, experiential website to all possible users.
